Being a swim coach who loves the job but dreads spending time in the hot sun, I am always on the lookout for facial masks to use after hours in the sun to attempt to reverse the damage.

My brother introduced me to this Korean brand, Atomy. This company is present in more than 25 countries and products are easily available online. I browsed the Atomy Singapore website and came across the Atomy Marine Ampoule Gel Mask. They have the brightening masks, as well as masks to moisturize and soothe the skin. Each box of ten masks is sold at about USD 38 for members. As I often get sunburnt, I chose the Moisturizing and Soothing masks.

One Saturday morning, in my haste to rush to the pool to start my swim lessons on time, I actually forgot to put on any sunscreen or sunblock. By the time I finished teaching back-to-back lessons after three hours, my face was burnt to a crisp. Ouch! Just gently touching my face hurt!

After gently cleansing my face, I applied some witch hazel (Mild By Nature Witch Hazel (Rose Petals)) on my face to tone and soothe my skin. I took out the Atomy Marine Ampoule Mask from the package to put on my face. Interestingly, this mask comes in two sections. One upper section to cover the forehead and eye area, and one lower section for the lower part of the face.

The mask is indeed in gel form, light green in color and smells a little like green tea. I was rather clumsy. I tore a section of the mask. “Oh no!”, I thought I had ruined the mask even before using it. I thought that once the mask is torn, all the moisturizing lotion will leak from the mask and all the moisturizing goodness will be lost. But to my pleasant surprise, there was no spillage and I could just continue using the mask without any wastage.

After about forty minutes, I removed the mask. As you can see, my skin now looks calmer, and it is no longer painful to the touch. I strongly recommend this for sunburnt skin. My skin looks so much better I can’t help smiling!

Being new to this mask, initially I found it quite difficult to put it on. My daughter actually had to help me with it. But since the mask does not spill any of the moisturizing lotion even if you tear it by accident, you can still give this mask a try. You can keep adjusting the mask till you get it positioned the best way possible.
